University of Wisconsin-Parkside Student Government (PSG) is in the process of making big changes this holiday season.
Editing the constitution has served as a pressing issue discussed over the past several student senate meetings. The bylaws committee has worked for that time period to improve the constitution for the betterment of the student body.
On Wednesday, Dec. 8, the senate passed the revised constitution by a two-thirds majority vote.
The most notable change would eliminate senate seats provided to Parkside Asian Organization (PAO), Latinos United (LU), Parkside Association of War Gamers (PAW), Rainbow Alliance, and Parkside International Club (PIC). The remaining 20 senate seats are all elected by the student body. If the revision is put into effect, all students would go through the campaign process to acquire a senate positition.
After passing through the senate, the constitution must still be confirmed by the student body. Students will have the opportunity to vote in the April elections.
For a detailed story, visit therangernews.com. The Ranger News, Parkside's student newspaper, is your source for PSG coverage, as well as campus news, sports, and entertainment.
PSG is also active in gathering student input on whether or not to promote administration implementing a campus-wide smoking ban. Every student was emailed a smoking ban survey from PSG president Dana Calamia. If you are yet to fill out the survey, you can retrieve the email from PSG.President@uwp.edu sent on Nov. 23.
Finally, UWPSG.com has provided useful updates from multiple student government factions for the last year-and-a-half. After brainstorming more effective ways to reach the students via the web page, expect more options in the coming months.
Currently, the website has profiles of each senator and executive-board member, and updates students with meeting minutes and press releases.
To get involved with PSG, attend senate meetings next semester held every Wednesday at 5 PM in the Oak Room.
On behalf of PSG, we wish you a happy holiday and many blessings!
